The following pictures show the shell casting process of the five new small sculptures we completed last fall.  Each wax model of the small sculpture is attached to a central sprue of wax with gating running to areas that need extra feeding of the molten bronze.  Pictured below is the ceramic shell that is built up in layers over the wax  "tree".  Most of the trees below hold 4 to 8 sculptures.  The ceramic shell is dried and then fired and while still hot, molten bronze is poured into the mold. After the bronze cools the shell molds are removed from the sand pit, the shell is broken and sand blasted off the small bronze sculptures.
